No decision is more important than the decision to have a relationship with the Lord of the universe.

We start with a question – Who is Jesus and why should I want a relationship with Him?

Jesus is the Son of God. He came to this earth and willingly sacrificed His life for you and me by dying on the cross. His sacrifice paid the penalty for our sins and provides forgiveness from sins and hope for ever. This forgiveness is offered to all, but we must choose to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. This is what it means to start a relationship with Jesus, we accept the sacrifice He made for us on the cross and receive Him in our hearts as our Lord and Savior.

How does one accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross?

I put my faith and trust in Jesus as my Savior. I cannot do enough good to save myself; I recognize Jesus as the only One Who can save me. So I put my faith in Jesus by telling Him, “Jesus I trust in You and I want You to be my Savior.”

To signify I have made this decision, the Bible commands three things:

  • I must repent of my sins, telling Jesus I am sorry for my wrongdoing of the past.

  • I must publically confess my belief in Who He is – we call this the good confession. I must say with my mouth, “I believe Jesus is the Son of the Living God, and I accept Him as my Lord and Savior.”

  • I must be baptized (immersed) into Jesus Christ.

The Bible teaches when a sinner puts their trust in Jesus by repenting of their sins, confesses His Name, and is baptized into Jesus Christ, they are forgiven of their sins and are forever a part of God’s family, the church.

This is what it means to start a relationship with Jesus.
