Christian Women's Benevolent Association
Christian Women's Benevolent Association has been helping the city's poor, homeless, and orphaned for over 109 years! They have helped the fatherless, cared for the elderly, and established two hospitals in North St. Louis County.
CWBA exists to meet these needs. Although they no longer have an orphanage and Christian hospitals are now under different ownership, these were works begun by women who believed in Jesus' imperative, "in as much as you have done it to the least of these My brethern, you have done it unto Me." (Matthew 25:40)
One of the biggest changes in many years is the focus on the plan to build a new facility to replace the one on Chambers road here in St. Louis. In order to bring the 30 year old structure up to 2010 state requirements, it was decided to replace the building entirely. There are two ailing elevators to service three floors as well as limited fire-sprinkler coverage. Plans call for a single home with separate wings for assisted living, dementia residents, and two for skilled nursing. It will also include the dialysis center, therapy department, and room for maintenance and storage. The decision to build anew was arrived at after a feasibility study found this to be most beneficial and financially responsible method. No funds will have to come from the supporters but will be provided for with low interest funds from HUD. It also insures that the Christian emphasis will still be a main focus.
